Matariki poems!

Matariki

Matariki star
Shining bright in the night sky
I’ll wish upon you
Will you make my dreams come true
Pohutukawa.

What is a star?
A glamorous shining speck
Blooms into a shooting blob of light
Waiting for you to wish upon it
Pohutukawa is the one
That is what a star is!
What is Matariki?
A cluster of stars
The excitement of a dark dawn feast coming your way
Tasty turmeric tea
Or just breakfast if you wish
A big smile on your joyful face
A tradition that happens every year
That is Matariki!

Kia ora Rhiley, great listing your parts of a landslide. Maybe next time do not add too many spaces between each bullet points. Have you read thru and rechecked punctuation? http://awsrhileyw.blogspot.com/2018/09/dangers-landslide.html#comment-form

accomplishing a campground scene!šŸ•

This is my Year 6 clay art^. As a year 6 next year I would like to achieve going to camp.
What I made is about leadership, I want to be a strong year 6 and be in the student council.
I made it by using wet clay and air dry clay tools, it needing teamwork because mine fell on the ground and broke, I had to restart all over again!
That was also very challenging restarting because it was last minute!
I am proud that it actually turns out good, I am also proud that I am holding it without dropping it! šŸ˜ƒšŸ•

T3 W9 destructive cyclones

Destructive cyclones

Another name for a cyclone depending where in the world you are is a hurricane, cyclone or a typhoon!

How does a cyclone happen?
Cyclones are like giant engines that use warm, moist air as their fuel. They form only over warm ocean surfaces near the equator. Warm moist air rises upward from near the surface. Air moves up and away from the surface, there is less air near the surface.

Māori connection
The māori word for cyclone is Haumātakataka.
He āwhā nūi, ā, he tino kino tē puhi ō tē Haumātakataka / a hurricane is a
bad storm with a violent wind.

How a cyclone made an impact on New Zealand.
Cyclone bola was the most damaging cyclone to ever hit New Zealand. Constant rain caused deves taking floods and slips, resulting in the evacuation of thousands of people and the death of three.

How to get through a cyclone.
  1. Disconnect all electronic appliances
  2. Stay inside and shelter in the strongest part of the building
  3. If the building starts to break up protect yourself with mattresses, rugs or blankets
  4. .
  5. Beware of the calm ‘eye’

Interesting facts and trivia
Cyclone Tracy hit Carwin in 1974 and it was one of the most destructive cyclones! Cyclones are the 3 dangerous natural hazards to people. Cyclones spin clockwise in the southern hemisphere and anti-clockwise in the northern hemisphere!

There are so many names for a cyclone, hurricane, ECT.
But the most important thing is to stay safe! If you see on the news that a
big storm is about to come, stay tuned to the news for more updates.

living by the rules!

1. Catherine acts like she know she is right and does not need to prove it. She does not give Amity a high five which make her feel sad inside.
2. They carry on with the game but then Catherine gets out and asks for another turn but Amity says no and they agree to let Lucy have a turn and then Catherine has another turn.
I enjoyed making the video with my friends. I disliked how we could not get in the part I wanted to get in. I also disliked how many times we had to do it!

purple burst!

This is me holding my calendar art! LOYAL:
I chose Loyal because I am dependable and reliable!
We have learned how to use watercolours and a word and symbol
that best describes our time at Awapuni school.
What I found challenging was blending my colours! What I loved was creating my font for LOYAL!

what is a cyclone?

What is a cyclone?

A big deadly storm,
Tough terrifying thunder,
Building up fear, praying to stay warm.
pounding, rushing, mega-storm.
We will know something will be caused!
As loud as a tribe of elephants, tearing down trees.
Doctors rushing here from there, there to where?
Wiping out people, pipes and more.
The fear is no trick, death is to be caused.
pinecones have gone crazy.
Meteorologists did not expect this, phoning up scientists to
come have a look.
Satellites have to be wrong this can't be something!
I guess it is true because...

That is a cyclone!

Eel dreaming

Eel Dreaming
Author: Ben Brown
Illustrator: Helen Taylor
Genre: sophisticated picture book
Main character: Eel
Eel needs to find a perfect river for him to survive in and be safe, without any harm!
Eel searches through a swamp, forest which leads to a river, which leads to a gorge an amazingly colored waterfall! Slithered over a wide, wide valley, then over the famous tossok hill.
I rate this book fairly well, Eel Dreaming is my favorite ben brown book. This book is the best!

I gave this rating because this story is sad, Eel cannot find a home to live in and every home he feels Awesome in is every home he gets kicked out of. On the bright side, this book is filled with adventure, “furiously trying to find a home he slithers down tossok hill struggling to survive. He needs to find a swamp/river” Eel is brave and loyal, he loves a good adventure and definitely 6-8 would love this book even little kids would love this book getting read to them, this is a good bedtime story and I recommend it!

Awapuni school takes zero waste seriously

Zero waste at Awapuni school?

I totally agree that Awapuni school takes zero waste seriously! Here are my three reasons why.

Firstly, We have spent a lot of time on zero waste. We have researched and discovered lots of stuff. For all, I know room 3 have spent a whole term on discovering facts about zero waste. In our classroom  ( room 3 ) we have a wall about zero waste. There are recycling e-waste posters, greenhouse effects topic learning, and pictures from when we went to the recycling center! Biodegradable stuff is what we enjoy! Also a little bit of caring for the environment.

Secondly, greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are bad but can also be good here is why. For example, we need greenhouse gases to make us live! Now here comes the dark side, well not really dark because this connects with the sun, extra greenhouse gases affect the natural balance of the Earth! The sun’s heat rises back into the atmosphere and the greenhouse gases trap that heat. The more and more greenhouse gases there are the more and more the Earth’s natural temperature rises. In fact, in the twentieth century, the Earth’s average temperature increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius!

Thirdly, green team. Awapuni school has made up a green team, the green team reduces our carbon footprint by planting more trees in our school environment. They also can make our carbon footprint bigger and bigger and bigger. By moving lots, going in the car, the car ’s use up gas and gas is made from fossil fuel!

In fact, zero waste is so interesting that you can search it up to. Hopefully, you have learned something from this and please, please clean up your environment and take care of your community!
